About Ortelius
Abraham Ortelius, was a 16th century cartographer, geographer, illuminator and mapmaker, who is best known as the father of the modern atlas. He had an insatiable curiosity for charting new lands and the insight to bring together some of the best cartographers and mapmakers to create a single, unified atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. Ortelius revolutionized the way people saw the world. Through his atlas, Ortelius was able to bring together people and their creative works and ideas to provide a greater understanding and more accurate picture of the world.
